HARRY
Mollyhawk, Diederichs Harry was born in
Sibbo on 12 May 1903 and died in Mariehamn on 14 décember 1988.
He made his first voyage in 1923 in the VON
DÖBELIN and obtained his Master Mariner's Certificate in 1934.
He rounded Cape Horn in ARCHIBALD RUSSELL
as O.S.in 1928 and in the POMMERN in 1931, 1932 and 1933, as Able Seaman.
Harry Diedrichs served at sea for 44
years, including during the whole of World War II. He made three round
-the-world voyages in the POMMERN and one in the ARCHIBALD RUSSELL.
He also sailed in the 4-masted barque VALBORG
and the three- master LOCH LINNE.
He served as 3rd and 2rd Mate of the POMMERN
and 2nd Mate of the s sPLUTO. He was Chief Mate of the s s GRETA THORDEN and s
s MARISA THORDEN, and Master of the PEGGY THORDËN, s s SAVONIA, s s BRITA THORDËN,
s s HAMINA, s s TORNATOR, m v FINNTRADER and m v FINNBOARD.
He was in command of the m v FINNARROW until
he retired in 1957.
In 1955 Harry Diederichs was awarded the
Order of White Rose of Finland, and in 1965 the gold medal of Shipowners
Assocciation.
In 1966 he was awarded the Order of the
Lion of Finland, first class, and in 1967, the gold medal of the Ships Officer
Association.
