DONNING
JAKOB
Mollyhawk, Donning Jacob was born in
Jomala, Åland, on 1 July 1918.
He made his fist voyage in 1935, in the
barque WARMA, Captain K. V. Lindqvist.
Jakob Donning rounded Cape Horn eastwards
in 1939 during a voyage Gothenburg- Port Victoria- Falmouth 1938-1939., in the
4-masted barque PAMIR, when he served as Able Seaman/Sailmaker.
The Master was Captain Verner Björkfelt.
Jakob Donning obtained his Master
Mariner's certificate in Mariehamn in 1945.
He served as 2nd Mate and Chief Mate of
ships belonging to the Rederiaaktbolaget Sally, and subsequently as Master of
ships of the same Company- m v BERNY, s s PARMA, m v BONNY, m v SIGNY, m v GUNNY,
m t PEGNY, DAGNY and JONNY.
Jakob Donning retired in 1977. He was one
of the first members of the POMMERN sailmakers, a group of ex-sailingship men
and other enthusiasts who began sewing for the 4-masted barque and museum-ship POMMERN
in 1934.
He has been active in that work ever
since.
