ERIKSSON LEANDER
Eriksson Leander Julius, albatross, was
born in Jomala, Åland, on 12.11.1878 and died in Mariehamn in 1971.
He made his first voyage in 1895, in the
full-rigged ship PANDION.
He obtained his Master Mariner's certificate
in Vasa, Finland.
Julius Eriksson served as Mate of the
barque DUNDEE from 1909 to 1911.
He was master of the barque CHRISTIANI from
1912 to 1914 and became Master of the full-rigger CAMBRIAN PRINCESS in 1915.
He was Master of the full - rigger GRACE HARWAR
from 1916 to 1917.
In the 1920s he was Master of the barque CARMEN,
and in 1927, he became Master of the 4-masted motor-sailer REGINA.
In 1930 he left the REGINA on account of
illness, but he returned as her Master in 1982.
He subsequently left the sea and took up
an insurance post in Mariehamn.
Julius Eriksson rounded Cape Horn six
times.
