GYLLING
ALF
Gylling Alf, Fritiof, Mollyhawk, was born
in Mariehamn on 8.1.1901 and died in 1978.
He made his first voyage in 1926 in the
barque LOCH LINNHE, Master Carl Holmqvist.
He then served in the barquentine MOZART and
the 4-masted barque PONAPE.
He obtained his Master Mariner's
certificate in Mariehamn in 1936.
Alf Gylling rounded Cape Horn eastwards
three times :

as O. S. in the MOZART, February 1929,
voyage Wallaroo-Queenstown.

as A. B. in the MOZART, March 1930 voyage
Melbourne-Mariehamn, (in ballast)

as Chief Mate, MOZART March 1935, voyage
Port Lincoln- Falmouth.
He served as 3rd and Chief Mate of the PONAPE
and as Chief Mate of the MOZART from 1933-35.

Alf Gylling was Master of the s s FREJ in
1939-40.
He also served as Mate in various Finnish
and foreign ships.
He retired in 1965.
