HÄGGBLOM ERIK

 

 

Häggeblom, Erik, Gösta, Mollyhawk, was born in Kalmarnäs, Jomala, Åland, on 4 july 1914 and died there on April 1994.

He began his sea career in his father's galeas, and as a 16-year-old, he signed on the barque PROMPT in deep sea trade.

After obtaining his Mate's certificate, Gösta Häggblom served as Mate of the Schooner FRED.

He also served as 2nd Mate of the 4- Masted barque PARMA, in which he rounded Cape Horn eastwards in 1935.

Gösta Häggblom obtained his Master Mariner's certificate in Mariehamn in 1938.

He served as Master of the s s THELMA and s s MOTTO from 1939 to 1945.

After 20 years service at sea, including five years in sailing-ships, he joined the Pilotage Service.

He worked as a pilot at the Mariehamn pilot station, retiring in 1969..

Gösta Häggblom was awarded the Cross of Merit of the Lion of Finland.
