HOLMBERG
ALFRED
Holmberg Alfred Teodor,Mollyhawk, was
born in 6 March 1898 and died in Mariehamn in 1967.
He made his first voyage in 1915 in the
barque PROFESSOR KOCH.
Subsequently he sailed in the m v SANTA ISABEL
and barque ALBYN.
He passed his Master Mariner's
examination in Mariehamn in 1924.
Alfred Holmberg sailed as Chief Mate in
the barque WOODBURN, 4-masted m v GULLKRONA, 3-m barque TJERIMAI ( 12.5.24-
24.12.1924) and barque OLUS ( 20.8.25.-24.2.27.). He was Master of the m v JUPITER
( 3.5.25-13.8.25.)and the barque ZARITZA (15.4.27.-27.12.27.).
He was Chief Mate of the ss s THORNBURY (
20.4.-24.11.28.) and then Master of the schooner SVEA ( 27.4.29.- 30.1.30.and
15.4.- 17.10.30).
He passed his wireless operator's
examination, 1st class, in 1934.
Alfred Holmberg further served as 3rd
Mate of the s s NAXOS (20.12.31-16.10.33) Chief Mate of the s s ALDEBARAN (
17.10.33.-27.2.34 ) and Wireless Operator of the s s BETTY H.( 23.3.34
-24.7.34.).
After 1938 he served as Master of the s s
SAVONIA,s s HULDA THORDEN, m v MARITA THORDEN,s s KARIN THORDEN and s s MARIEFORS.
Alfred Holmberg rounded Cape Horn twice
and was one of the Founder Members of the Åland Islands Section of the A.I.C.H.
