JANSSON
SVEN
Jansson Sven, Alfred, Mollyhawk, was born
in Föglö, Åland, on 7 September 1914
and died in Stallarholmen, Sweden, on 7
June 1983.
Sven Jansson went to sea at the age of 16,
and he rounded Cape Horn twice :
- in 1934 in the 4- masted barque OLIVEBANK,
eastwards, and
- in 1935 in the 4- masted barque VIKING,
eastwards.
He obtained his Master Mariner's certificate
in Mariehamn in 1944.
Sven Jansson served as 3rd Mate of the s
s AGNES and as 2nd Mate of the s s MARIEBORG and m v ALCA.
In 1945 he moved to Stallarholmen, in
Sweden.
At first he served at sea, but later he
acquired tugboats and carried timber between Finland and Sweden.
He also assisted in towing the museum-
ship and 4- masted barque POMMERN to Stockholm when she took part in the
Skansen Days there in 1975.
Sven Jansson made a model of the OLIVEBANK,
in which he had served.
