JOHANSSON-JUUP VALTER

 

Johansson-Juup, Valter, Eugen, Mollyhawk, was born in Hangö / Hanko, on 23.1.1905 and died in 1969.

He went to sea in 1919 in coastal trading, and subsequently served in the barque AXEL, schooner ATLAS, 4- masted barque HOUGOMONT and in Australian ships.

He obtained his Master Mariner's certificate in Äbo / Turku in 1934.

V. E Johansson - Juup served for 3 years as 2nd Mate in the Nordenjeldske Line and Henry Nielsen company, and then for 3 years as Chief Mate in the latter company.

He subsequently served as Master in the Caledonia Steamship co and in ships belonging to the Henry Nielsen company, s s BRITANNIC, s sKOTKA, s sZILOS and s s NIDARHOLM.

He also served as Master of the s s RAMSDAL and s s RUNAL.

V.E. Johansson-Juup rounded Cape Horn twice :

- in 1927 in the 4- masted barque HOUGOMONT as Able Seaman, voyage Port Lincoln-Falmouth, Master Ivar Hägerstrand. and

- in 1930 in the 3-masted barque FAVELL as Sailmaker, voyage Melbourne- Falmouth. Master Sten Lille.
