JOHANSSON JOHN

 

Johansson John Adolf, Mollyhawk, born in England on 16.9.1918.

Died in Mariehamn on 25.5.1990.

John Johansson made his first voyage in 1935, in the m/aux GULLKRONA from Finland.

He signed on the s v PAMIR on 18.9.1936, serving as Deck Hand until 25.6.37, as Ordinary Seaman, from 26.6.37 to 25.2.1938, and as Donkey man from 26.2.1938 to 30.8 1938.During his time on board, the PAMIR, he rounded Cape Horn twice, in 1937 and 1938.

John Johansson then served in steamers and motor ships, and was interned in Germany in 1944, while serving in the m/aux NORA.

He obtained his Master Mariner's certificate in 1956.

Subsequently John Johansson served as Mate and Master of various steamers and motor ships, and was Master of several vessels belonging to Rederiaktibolaget Sally from 1962 to 1982.

He was a member of the Åland Life- saving Society and of the Åland Shipmasters Association.
