JOHNSSON TEODOR

 

Johnsson, Teodor, Leonard, Mollyhawk, was born in Eckerö, Åland, on 22.6.1889.and died in Mariehamn on 4.12.1962.

Leonard Johnsson made his first voyage in 1907, in the barque PROMPT.

He subsequently served in the English 4- masted barque LINDFIELD.

He obtained his Master Mariner's certificate in Mariehamn in 1916.

After serving as only Mate in the schooner SWIKS and as 2nd Mate of the full rigger THOMASINA, Leonard Johnsson underwent naval training courses between 1918-19 and served as commander of the chief mine-sweeper ALTAIR.

In 1920, he resumed service in the Merchant Navy, being Master of the m v  PRINSESSAN for four years.

He was then Mate of the s s BOMARSUND and became her Master in 1927.

Subsequently Leonard Johnsson served as Master of the HÖGLAND, AGNES, ANNEBERG, HAMMARLAND OLIVIA and LEDSUND.

In 1954 he became Managing Director of the Rederi Ab Ledsund.

Leonard Johnsson was one of the founder members of the Åland Section of the A.I.C.H.

He rounded Cape Horn four times in the PROMPT, during her voyages 1908-09 : Hamburg-Antofagasta (westwards), Callao - Newcastle (eastwards) -Newcastle- Iquique (westwards), and Iquique -Falmouth (eastwards).

He also rounded Cape Horn once in the LINDFIELD, and once in the THOMASINA, making 6 times altogether.

The rounding in the THOMASINA probably took place during her voyage 1914-1915 Newcastle, (NSW )-Valparaiso and Portland Oregon - Liverpool.
