KARLSSON ERIK, UNO, ELIEL

 

Karlsson, Erik, Uno, Eliel, Albatross, was born in Jomala, Åland, on 10.12.1897. and died in 1978.

He made his first voyage in 1914, in the barque JOHN GILL, and subsequently sailed in the m v JENOLIN, barque NJORD, and schooner NÄSBORG.

He obtained his Master Mariner's certificate in Mariehamn, in 1928.

Uno Karlsson served as Mate in the schooner ALF, the barque WOODBURN

the full-rigged ship GRACE HARWAR and the barque PENANG.

After 1929 he served as Master of the 4- masted barque PONAPE, the m v ALCA, the s s ADVANCE, etc.

He also served as pilot at the Kobba Klintar pilot station outside Mariehamn.

 

Uno Karlsson rounded Cape Horn five times :

- in the WOODBURN westwards in 1924,

- in the GRACE HARWAR eastwards in 1926,

- in the PENANG eastwards in 1928,

- and in the PONAPE eastwards in 1930 and 1932, both times as Master.
