KNAHPE OLOF

 

Knahpe Olof, Albin, Mollyhawk, was born in Jomala, Åland, on 23.1.1903.and died in Jomala on 8.8.1993.

He made his first voyage in 1921, in the schooner LINDEN.

He rounded Cape Horn twice eastwards, in 1927 in the 4- masted barque ARCHIBALD RUSSELL as 3rd Mate, and in 1930 in the 4- masted barque MELBOURNE, as Chief Mate.

Olof Knahpe obtained his Master Mariner 's certificate in Mariehamn in 1931.

He served as Mate in the m v ALEXANDRA, the ARCHIBALD RUSSELL, the barque LOCH LINNHE and the MELBOURNE.

He was also Master of the schooner OSTROBOTNIA, the m v MADARE, and the s s ARGO.

At the outbreak of war in 1939, Olof Knahpe left the sea and became a farmer in Önningeby, Jomala.
