KOSKELIN
HJALMAR
Koskelin Hjalmar Johannes Bertil,
Mollyhawk, was born in Petersburg on 27 June 1911.
Bertil Koskelin made his first voyage in
1930, in the 3- masted barque KILLORAN Master Hugo D. Karlsson.
He rounded Cape Horn six times :
- in the KILLORAN in 1931,1932,1933,and
1934,
- in the 4- masted barque OLIVEBANK in
1937, and
- in the 4- masted barque MOSHULU in
1938., all times eastwards.
He also served in the 4- masted barque PONAPE
in 1936.
Bertil Koskelin obtained his Master
Mariner's certificate in Äbo / Turku in 1939.
He served as 2nd Mate of the OLIVEBANK and
as Chief Mate of the MOSHULU, s s BALMUNG
and s s ERGO.
He served in the Finnish Steamship
Company (FÄA) in the steamers ARIEL, IVALO, SUOMEN NETTO and VIRGO.
He was Master of the m v ANITA, and Chief
Mate and acting Master of the m v VERNER II and m v PARGASPORT.
From 1958 to 1972, he was Master of the m
v GULLKRONA.
He retired in 1972.
