MANGELUS ALF

 

Mangelus Alf, Nesto, Jonatan, Mollyhawk, was born on 1.4.1908 in Jomala, Åland, and died in Mariehamn on 10.9 1983..

He made his first voyage in 1926 in the s s ARCTURUS and subsequently sailed in the s s OBERON, s s NAXOS and the 3- masted barque LINGARD.

Alf angelus obtained his Master Mariner's certificate in Mariehamn in 1938.

He then served as Mate in the 3- masted barque CARMEN and the 4- masted barque PARMA.

He rounded Cape Horn eastwards in 1935 in the PARMA.

Alf Mangelus served as Mate in ships belonging to the Finnish Steamship Company and subsequently in ships under foreign flags.

He also served as Master of the m v SILJA in the Far East.

He was active for many years in working to obtain a satisfactory solution of the question of pensions for elderly seamen.
