MANSEN WILLIAM

 

Mansen William, K, Mollyhawk, was born on 28 August 1913 in Boston, Mass., and died in his home in Huron, Ohio, on 24 October 1991.

William Mansen moved with his parents to Åland as a child.

He served in Åland ships, including the barque PARMA, in which he rounded Cape Horn twice, in 1932 and 1933.

He obtained his Chief Mate 's certificate in Mariehamn but in 1947 he emigrated to the USA with his wife Maggie, and he obtained his Master Mariner's certificate there.

William Mansen then served as Master of cargo ships trading in the Great Lakes between the USA and Canada.
