MATTSSON
ERIK
Mattsson Erik, Carl Alf, Mollyhawk, was
born in Föglö, Ĺland on 28 May 1907, and died there on 11 June 1981.
Alf Mattsson went to sea in 1929, in the
barquentine ESTONIA.
He then served in the barque CARMEN,
barque PLUS and the s s THORNBURY.
He obtained his Master Mariner's
certificate in Mariehamn in 1939.
Alf Mattsson then sailed in the
barquentine ESTHONIA, and the four -masted barques ARCHIBALD RUSSELL and PAMIR.
He rounded Cape Horn twice eastwards, in
the ARCHIBALD RUSSELL in 1936 and in the PAMIR in 1937.
He also served in the s s RIGEL, and as
2nd Mate in the s s MARGARETA and s s HILDEGAARD and as Chief Mate of the m v ALCA
and s s SALLY.
Alf Mattsson then left the sea in order
to devote himself to managing his home farm.
