MATTSSON UNO

 

 

Mattsson, Uno, Gothard, Albatross, was born in Eckerö, Åland, on 5.5.1903 and died in 1969.

He made his first voyage in January 1922 in the 4- masted barque HERZOGIN CECILIE, Master Ruben de Cloux.

He subsequently served in the barques FRED and PENANG for a total of 36 months.

He obtained his Master Mariner's certificate in Mariehamn in 1931.

Uno Mattsson served as Mate of the barquentine SAGA for 5 months, 2nd Mate of the barque LOCH LINNHE for 7 months, Chief Mate of the 4- masted barque VIKING and the PENANG for a total of 40 months, and as Master of the PENANG for 11 months.

He also served as 2nd and Chief Mate of the s s MARGARETA ; as Master of the s s EMILY, as Mate and Chief Mate of the Swedish s s FREDEN, and as 2nd and Chief Mate and Acting Master of the s s ARNETA, s s ARIANA and m t ARABELLA.

Uno Mattsson rounded Cape Horn three times, eastwards :- as Mate of the VIKING in 1931, as Mate of the PENANG in 1932 and as Master of the PENANG during the 1933-34 voyage.
