SJÖLUND MATTS

 

Sjölund, Matts, Gustaf, Palmer, Mollyhawk was born in Jomala, Åland, on 16 September 1922 and died there on 21 July 1989.

Palmer Sjölund made his first voyage in 1938 in the 4-masted barque VIKI NG under the command of Captain Uno Mörn, and he rounded Cape Horn during that voyage, as deck hand : voyage Nystad-Copenhagen -Port Victoria -Falmouth- Cardiff-Mariehamn.

He obtained his Master Mariner's certificate in Mariehamnn 1950.

Palmer Sjölund served as 3rd Mate of the s s FANNY, 2nd Mate of the s s LEDSUND and Chief Mate of the s s ÖSTERBOTTEN, s s PENELOPE, s s THORNBURY, s s ELLEA, and HAVSKÄR.

He was also 2nd Mate of the m v FIDELIO and acting Master of the THORNBURY.

He served in ships belonging to the Swedish Thorden Company and then in ships of the Åland Company Reden Ab Sally, until his retirement in 1973.
