STRÖMBÄCK FREDRIK

 

Strömbäck Fredrik Wilhelm, Mollyhawk, was born in Gamlakarleby (Kokkola) on 20.4.1919 and died in 1990.

He made his first voyage in 1936, in the s s YRSA, Master T. Biskop.

Fred Strömbäck rouded Cape Horn in the 4-masted barque POMMERN eastwards in 1938. He also sailed in the POMMERN in 1939.

Fred Strömbäck obtained his Master Mariner's certificate in Mariehamn in 1951.

He served as 3rd Mate of the m t NIKE and s s KATEGATT, 2nd Mate of the s s DAGMAR BRATT and m t SIGRID REUTER and as Chief Mate of the s s ULEA.

He was in charge of soundings at the Finnish National Board of Navigation for about 2 1/2 years and then worked in the Pilotage Service in Mariehamn and Hangö( Hanko).

On 1.5.1955 he was appointed Harbour Master of Gamlakarleby and he was also harbour inspector there.

He was appointed Nautical Surveyor in 1968 and acted as maritime expert at the Municipal Court of Gamlakarleby from 1967.
