TALLQUIST LARS

Tallquist Lars, Teodor, Mollyhawk, was born in Mariehamn on 1.8.1914.

He made his first voyage at the age of 17 in the s s VERDANDI, belonging to the Helin Company of Föglö, Åland Islands.

The Mates, who were standing on the fo'c's'le - head, did not appreciate the joke, and Lars was given extra hard treatment during his initiation.

He served as Mate in the s s VERVANDI, s s LAHTI, s s HULDA THORDEN and as Master of the s s TORA, s s RIDAL, s s BODAL, s s RAMSÖ, m v HERRÖ and s s YVETTE, among other ships.

He was awarded the Cape Horners' medal in 1997.
