TROBERG
BERTEL
Troberg Bertel Wilhem, Mollyhawk, was
born in Turku / Äbo,on 24.8.1905 and died in Pietarsaari/ Jakobstad, Finland,
on 7.3.1965.
Bertel Troberg went to sea in 1922 in the
barque AXEL and then sailed in the barque QUEEN OF SCOTS.
He rounded Cape Horn three times in that
vessel. Here is his own account :

Sailed from Buenos Aires in February 1925
bound for Callao, Peru.
After completing her loading the ship
sailed in June 1925 bound for London. However her rigging was totally damaged
off Cape Horn, and she was taken under jury rig to Valparaiso, where she was
subsequently condemned.
Bertel Troberg obtained his Master
Mariner's certificate in Turku / Äbo in 1935.
He served as Mate and Master of various
ships, the last being the KORSHOLM belonging to the Vaasa Shipping Company. In
1956 he was appointed Manager of the Pietersaari Stevedoring and Shipping
Agents Company.
He was one the founder members of the
Pietersaari Sea Rescue Society in 1961 he became Harbour Master of Pietersaari.
