VIKATMAA KARL

 

Vikatmaa Karl, Johannes, Mollyhawk, was born in Kustavi / Gustavs, Finland, on 2.9.1914 and died in 1975.

He went to sea in 1936 in the KYLEMORE.

Karl Vikatmaa rounded Cape Horn twice eastwards :

- in 1937 as Ordinary Seaman in the 4- masted barque MOSHULU, voyage Port Adelaïde -Queenstown ( Captain Gunnar Bomaan ) and

- in 1938 as Able Seaman in the 4-masted barque ARCHIBALD RUSSELL, voyage Port Germein- Falmouth ( Captain Mikael Sjögren ).

Karl Vikatmaa obtained his Master Mariner's certificate in Raumo in 1945.

He served as Mate in ships belonging to the rederi Ab Svea, P. Molander Ab and H. Liljestrand Ab, as well as in ships of the Stockholm company Ab Arafat.

During World War II, he held the rank of Lieutenant and served as 1st Officer and Captain of rescue cruisers.

He subsequently served as Master of the ISOKARI.

Karl Vikatmaa then worked in the office of the Zachariassen Company in Uusikaupunki / Nystad, Finland.
